Yellowstone National Park

As the day went on, we made a number of stops along the way and one of the most spectacular was a lookout over the Yellowstone River from about 900' up. The view was magnificent but what was the most fun were 5 eagles that were swooping up and down the sides of the canyon then coming up by the lookout, back across the canyon and down again. We must have watched them for about a half an hour. Along with these eagles were a number of hawks which did the same maneuvers, but at a safe distance from the eagles. Shows that hawks are smart enough to understand imitation versus becoming a snack.

Later that day we came across a traffic jam caused by a group of Japanese tourist that left their cars parked on the road so that they could run into a field to take pictures of a Moose. I would have stayed if I thought the Moose might drop kick one back to their car but we went on.

This afternoon we came upon the first of many geysers visiting "Paintpot" which is one of the more famous ones in the park. We also stopped in an area that had many geyser together and there was a raised wood walking trail in around so that you could get a close up look. The color range from green to blue in these geysers are beautiful and in many the water is crystal clear. Mineral deposits are everywhere and the smell of sulphur is always in the air.
