Meissen

This was to be my home for 6 days and it was a quiet little town on the banks of the Elbe River. We stayed at the Mercure Grand Hotel, which looks out on the River Elbe with Alberechtsburg Castle and the Meissen Cathedral. At night the castle and cathedral were all light up and they looked amazing. The is the most famous hotel in the area due to the fact that it was the one spot that the SS liked to stay in during the war. I cannot remember for sure but I believe I was told that Hitler stayed here once. Because of this, the original part of the hotel stayed in pristine shape and it has been added onto through the years.

Viewing the Cathedral and touring the castle was a great experience and both hold and incredible amount of history. In the square where the cathedral sites is a small pub which we were fortunate to enjoy lunch. The owner was a gentlemen who spoke English well and explained that he had visited Seattle. Throughout our meal, which I think lasted about two hours, we had a great time and this pub owner had a wicked sense of humor so we got along great.

I really cannot explain the castle to you other then a week with a tour guide would not be long enough to learn all about the history that this structure has been through and how important it is to the art world.
