Frankfurt

Frankfurt is a modern, metropolitan city which still holds much of its old world charm. In 2001, it was listed as Europe's richest city and is the home of the European Central Bank and the Frankfurt Stock Exchange.

The Zeil, is a pedestrian only zone on the "Golden Mile", which has a amazing array of stores and galleries and my favorite, Kamps, which offers freshly baked breads and pastries throughout the day. What is even better is that there seems to be a Kamps baker on every block of the Zeil which is why I came home seven pounds heavier and with a content smile on my face.

Just off the Zeil is the Main river, with a number of majestic cathedrals and historic buildings along its banks. This is a popular river for boating and tours as well as for commercial transport.

In the Old Town Square I found a market in progress surrounded by the wonderful architechure of Frankfurt's City Hall and the beautiful Nikolaikirche.
