Dresden

We took a tour of this amazing city stating at the Zwinger. Built in 1710-28, this incredible example of Baroque Architecture with a beautiful courtyard with the Crown Gate as its centerpiece. This complex house mass amounts of art, mathematiics-physics building the zoological museum and much more.

Much of Dresden is still being reconstructed today to restore what was destroyed in the bombing during WWII. The craftsmanship of these artist, many in there late teens and early 20s, was phenomenal.

A very unique feature of this city is the Procession of Princess, which is a hand-painted on Meissen Porcelain tiles mural depicting successive generations of Wettin Rulers as a mounted procession. This mural is over 300 feet in length.

The heart of Dresden is the Almarkt Square which is known to have been used for markets, festival and other events since at least 1370. One of the Dresden jewels is the Semperoper or Saxon Opera House. This is a massive structure and breathtaking to behold.

I think it is hard for most Americans to understand the history of Europe since we live in such a young nation.
