Nanaimo Today:

Over the past 25 years, the city’s economy has diversified from a resource based community to a regional service centre. Fisheries research, shellfish production, technology-based industries as well as the Malaspina University-College are just some of what makes up Nanaimo today.

Rich in historical preservation, Nanaimo has much to offer from their coal mining history to the First Nation people who first inhabited Vancouver Island. It is amazing to see how many different culture had a major part in creating what Nanaimo is today.

Nanaimo's population is just over 79,000 and is the second largest city center on Vancouver Island. An interesting fact is that Vancouver Island is about the same land mass as Holland. Nanaimo has pretty mild temperatures and an average rainfall per year. Nanaimo is known as the "Harbour City" and the Fisherman's Wharf and the Harbour Marina help them live up to their name.
